One programme, four strands, one place. Everything the foundation does on the ground is Lhacienda Terra.
Terra runs in the Gontougo region of Côte d’Ivoire, as a direct operation of the foundation. We chose a single programme in a single place rather than a portfolio of causes, because a small foundation spread thin produces nothing anyone can measure.
Cashew waste into biochar and energy
Shells converted by pyrolysis rather than burned in the open beside the processing plants. Cleaner air, soil that holds water through the dry season, and carbon locked into a stable form. Read more
Agronomic training
Growers and cooperative staff trained in soil health, orchard renewal and post-harvest handling, with field trials of the biochar produced by the first strand. Read more
Health, hygiene and social protection
Clean water, everyday hygiene, and a footing in social protection for the households Terra already works alongside. Read more
Women’s income and children in school
Income generated by women, and the removal of the specific costs that keep a child out of class. School support is paid in kind, directly to the school. Read more
Why one programme rather than four
They are not four separate causes that happen to share a website. Around Bondoukou they are the same problem seen from four angles: a cash crop whose waste pollutes, whose yields decline without technical support, whose income gap pulls children out of school, and whose households have no cushion when illness arrives. Working on one without the others produces a result that does not hold.
