Clean water, everyday hygiene, and a footing in social protection for the households we work alongside.
A strand of Lhacienda Terra, the foundation’s field programme in the Gontougo region of Côte d’Ivoire, run as a direct operation of the foundation.
Why this strand
The distance between a household and clean water is measured in hours, and those hours are almost always walked by women and girls — hours not spent in a classroom or earning an income. Behind that daily walk sit the illnesses that follow unsafe water, and the absence of any cushion when a family member falls ill.
What we do
- Improve access to safe water in the communities where Terra’s other strands already operate, rather than scattering effort across unrelated sites.
- Support everyday hygiene practice through the schools and community groups that already have people’s trust.
- Help households claim the social protection they are entitled to and rarely obtain.
What we need
An honest assessment of what already exists around Bondoukou. Duplicating a working service helps nobody. If you run health or water programmes in the Gontougo, write to us: contact@lhaciendafoundation.org
